Cherry Creek Wins 2024-25 MaxPreps Cup As Nation's Top Sports Program

Cherry Creek High School has been recognized as the nation’s top overall high school sports program for 2024-25, as the Bruins capped off the school year by winning the MaxPreps Cup.

This marks the first time in the 14-year history of the MaxPreps Cup that a Colorado school has been at the top of the standings at year's end. Cherry Creek also becomes the second westernmost school to win the MaxPreps Cup, with Jesuit of Portland, Ore. being the only school west of Denver to have ever won the cup.

The Bruins’ 2,621 points in the cup standings came from their nine state championships and two runner up finishes last year. The Bruins won state titles in boys golf, boys soccer, boys tennis, football, field hockey, girls swimming and diving, baseball, boys lacrosse and boys swimming and diving. The girls tennis and girls track and field teams also earned runner-up finishes helping Cherry Creek go wire-to-wire as the No. 1 school in the MaxPreps Cup standings over the course of the school year.

In total, Cherry Creek boasts 248 state titles in its school’s history, with 125 being a boys state title, 112 being a girls state title and 11 co-ed championships. The Bruins’ boys tennis team has won 47 state titles, while the girls tennis team has won 39 and the girls swimming and diving team has 31.

Valor Christian joined Cherry Creek in the top-25 of the MaxPreps Cup national standings, checking in 22nd with 1,503 points. The Eagles won four state titles last year, in girls volleyball, ice hockey, girls golf and girls lacrosse. Valor also finished runner-up in boys cross country, boys basketball and boys lacrosse.

The MaxPreps Cup is an award presented annually to the top overall high school athletic program in the nation. Schools are ordered based on an algorithm that takes into account state championships, state runner-up finishes and placement in national rankings. Point totals are weighted based on size of state, popularity of sport, enrollment division and the number of teams participating in an enrollment division.
