AURORA -- The opening round of the 4A and 2A girls soccer state tournaments began Wednesday.
In 4A, there were three one-goal decisions, with No. 9 Palmer Ridge edging No. 24 Standley Lake 2-1, No. 17 Ponderosa getting past No. 16 Cheyenne Mountain 2-1, and No. 18 Lewis-Palmer knocking off No. 15 Thompson Valley 1-0.
Also Wednesday, No. 1 Evergreen beat No. 32 Palisade 5-0; No. 2 Green Mountain defeated No. 31 Eagle Valley 5-0; No. 3 Windsor topped No. 30 Canon City 4-0; No. 4 Lutheran defeated No. 29 Battle Mountain 10-0; No. 5 Durango topped No. 28 Mountain View 8-0; No. 6 Mead got past No. 27 Thomas Jefferson 6-0; No. 7 Golden defeated No. 26 Palmer 10-0; No. 8 Dakota Ridge shut out No. 25 Skyline 6-0; No. 10 Rampart beat No. 23 Pueblo County 3-0; No. 11 Air Academy defeated No. 22 Pueblo West 4-1; No. 12 Riverdale Ridge held off No. 21 Montrose 3-1; No. 13 Mullen held off No. 20 D'Evelyn 2-0; and No. 14 Coronado edged No. 19 Adams City 3-1.
In 4A second-round games scheduled for Saturday, No. 1 Evergreen plays No. 16 Cheyenne Mountain; No. 2 Green Mountain faces No. 18 Lewis-Palmer; No. 3 Windsor battles No. 14 Coronado; No. 4 Lutheran faces No. 13 Mullen; No. 5 Durango squares off with No. 12 Riverdale Ridge; No. 6 Mead takes on No. 11 Air Academy; No. 7 Golden plays No. 10 Rampart; and No. 8 Dakota Ridge faces No. 9 Palmer Ridge.
In 2A, seven of the eight first-round games were played Wednesday, and three teams advanced with one-goal verdicts: No. 11 Middle Park defeated No. 22 Thomas MacLaren 1-0, No. 15 SkyView Academy edged No. 18 Windsor Charter Academy 4-3, and No. 19 The Vanguard School knocked off No. 14 Liberty Common 3-2.
Also Wednesday, No. 9 Front Range Christian beat No. 24 Rocky Mountain Lutheran 2-0, No. 10 Forge Christian defeated No. 23 Bishop Machebeuf 7-0, No. 12 Dawson School topped No. 21 James Irwin 3-0, and No. 16 Ridgway defeated No. 17 Vail Christian 2-0. On Thursday, No. 13 Gilpin County defeated No. 20 Fountain Valley, 1-0.
In the 2A second-round matchups scheduled for Saturday, No. 1 Denver Christian plays No. 16 Ridgway, No. 2 Buena Vista faces No. 15 SkyView Academy, No. 3 Colorado Springs Christian plays No. 19 The Vanguard School, No. 4 Crested Butte squares off with Gilpin County, No. 5 Frontier Academy plays No. 12 Dawson School, No. 6 Loveland Classical faces No. 11 Middle Park, No. 7 Salida takes on No. 10 Forge Christian, and No. 8 Flatirons Academy faces No. 9 Front Range Christian.
First-round matches in 3A are scheduled to start Thursday.
