Media Information: Track and Field State Championships

AURORA - The Colorado High School Activities Association’s Track and Field State Championships will be hosted this Thursday through Saturday, May 15-17 at the Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. Due to the high number of media at this event and the protocols at Jeffco Stadium, CHSAA will utilize the following procedures.

Please note that parking is different this year and all parking will be paid parking

CHSAA Annual Media Passes
If you do not have a 2024-25 CHSAA-issued Annual Media Pass or Provisional Pass, you WILL NOT be allowed into the facility as a media person. You may purchase a ticket, but you will not be allowed onto the infield/track restricted area at any time.

Any provisional passes MUST be requested by a media outlet no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14. No credentials will be issued on the day of competition.

All credentials are for working members of print, broadcast and online media, photographers and/or videographers covering the CHSAA State Championships for a news source or competing team. Freelance or unassigned media members WILL NOT be credentialed.

Credentials grant access to the infield competition space for photo, video and/or interview purposes. Credentials DO NOT grant access to the award podium area.

Issued credentials are non-transferable and must always be worn in a visible manner by the bearer.

Media Conduct
Credentialed media members have a professional expectation to maintain objectivity and impartiality while utilizing a CHSAA credential to cover a CHSAA event. Credentialed media are prohibited from cheering, applauding, whistling or showing overt enthusiasm during sporting events and are expected to report the event without bias or favoritism.

Credentialed media members are also prohibited from coaching, communicating with, signaling to or interacting with student-athletes during the competition period, and shall not ask for autographs from the student-athletes while inside the venue.

Failure to adhere to these policies can result in consequences, including credential revocation.

  • Note: If you’re a photographer and a coach of a participating school, coaches WILL NOT be allowed to serve in a media/photographer role in the infield/track restricted area while their students are competing. There will be consequences for coaches that are acting in a media role while their students/school are competing, including the student-athletes possibly being disqualified.
Media Check-In Times
Media can begin checking in at 6:45 a.m. and gates will open for media at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Parking Information
There will be a charge for parking at Jeffco Stadium for all attendees this year. There will be no specific, reserved media lot. The cost is $10 per day. All vehicles will enter the Jeffco Stadium lot off of Kipling heading NORTH. Parking lots will open one (1) hour before gates open. Parking passes can be purchased in advance through GoFan

Entering/Exiting the Facility
To check in and to enter the facility, all media must use the Northeast Gate (entrance by the shot put). You will NOT be able to enter through other gates.

All credentialed media members will need to check-in at the media table to receive a wristband and an additional pass that grants access to the track. The wristband, track credential and CHSAA-issued annual media pass must be visible at all times while inside the gates. Additional wristbands will not be handed out, so don’t lose or remove them.

All media must leave Jeffco Stadium no later than 2 hours after the last event has ended.

Photographer Restrictions
Photographers may shoot all events, giving consideration to the safety of both participants and photographers.

In the sprints and hurdles, photographers may shoot the finish head on as long as they provide a minimum of 50 meters cushion.

For the field events, at NO time will photographers be allowed on the shot or discus fields. Photographers should give a reasonable cushion to all competitors.
