AURORA - The Colorado High School Activities Association awarded its individual state champions for all seven positions at the Girls Tennis Individual State Championship on Saturday.
Across the three classifications, 11 different teams claimed at least one position championship with Ralston Valley leading the way with five individual titles. Cheyenne Mountain and Kent Denver each captured three, with Peak to Peak and Prospect Rige winning two. Cherry Creek, Mullen, St. Mary's Academy, Timnath, Vail Christian and Valor Christian all picked up one apiece.
At No. 1 singles, Valor Christian's Caroline Daugherty (5A) and Kent Denver's Lila Moldenhauer (4A) both defended their titles, with Moldenhauer becoming the first three-time state champion since Pine Creek’s Nicole Leimbach won four straight Class 4A No. 1 singles titles from 2001-2004.
In 3A, St. Mary's Academy's Ellie White capped her preps career with her first state title, marking the first individual girls tennis title for St. Mary's Academy.
Team champions will be crowned on Tuesday during the
