Nordic Skiing: Summit Boys, Lake County Girls Win Inaugural Team State Championships

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS - The Colorado High School Activities Association's first-ever Nordic Skiing State Championships were held Thursday and Friday in Steamboat Springs, with Lake County winning the girls team title and Summit capturing the boys championship. This year marked the first time that the skiing state championships were divided into an Alpine and Nordic division. Previously the Alpine and Nordic team scores were combined to determine a state champion.

Individually, Vail Mountain's Isla Elton swept the girls classic and skate titles, while on the boys side Summit swept the events, with Carter Niemkiewicz winning the classic and James Sowers the skate.

In the first year of the relay events, Summit won both races.
