Esports: State Championships Set for Tuesday

AURORA - The Colorado High School Activities Association's 2025 Fall Esports State Championships will be completed on Tuesday, with the final rounds taking place in person at Localhost in Lakewood.

The championship starts with the Rocket League quarterfinals at 9 a.m.  From there, as games finish, the next round will start, so all times are approximate. The Rocket League semifinals will begin at approximately 10 a.m., with the finals set for 11 a.m. With the rolling start, League of Legends play will begin with the semifinals as soon as there are enough monitors available, at approximately 10:30 a.m., putting the championship at about 1 p.m. Splatoon will cap off the day with the quarterfinals beginning around 2 p.m., with the semifinals set for 3 p.m. and the finals at approximately 4 p.m.

A trophy presentation will take place immediately after the finals of each individual games.

Live updates for SplatoonLeague of Legends and Rocket League can be found on PlayVs and the championship rounds will be streamed on the NFHS Network.

Rocket League Update

The first round of play took place on Monday, Dec. 1, and the advancing teams reaching the in-person stage at Localhost in Lakewood on Tuesday, Dec. 9, where three rounds will be played at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.. 

Only one first-round contest saw a better-seeded team lose, as No. 9 Rocket League Varsity (Chatfield) defeated No. 8 NHS Nighthawks Varsity (Northfield) 4-0.

The quarterinals were played on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The semifinals will be played Dec. 9 at 10:30 a.m., with the finals to follow at 1 p.m.

Splatoon Update

The first round of play took place on Friday, Nov. 21, with the eight winners advancing to the in-person final at Localhost in Lakewood on Tuesday, Dec. 9. 

The first round featured no upsets, as the top seed advanced in all eight matchups. 

Top-seeded Chatfield Splatoon Varsity (Chatfield) defeated No. 16 Chaparral Splatoon Varisty (Chaparral), 3-0, while Falcon Fresh (Highlands Ranch) swept UH Splat 1 (University). No. 3 Mountain Vista Big Swig Express (Mountain Vista) advanced with a 3-0 win over No. 14 Stallion Splat (Sierra), No. 4 RMHS Lobos Varsity (Rocky Mountain) got past No. 13 Chatfield Splatoon JV (Chatfield) and No. 5 SplatPack EHS (Denver East) escaped ERA Warriors Splatoon (Eagle Ridge Academy), 3-2. 

No. 6 Wicked-Fresh Salmon (Ponderosa) earned its spot in the quarterfinals with a 3-0 sweep of No. 11 Grandview Splat Pack (Grandview), while No. 6 LHS Varsity Puddly of Squids swept Titans (Legend), 3-0. No. 8 Valor Eagles (Valor Christian) claimed the final quarterfinal spot with a 3-1 win over No. 9 Pueblo East Eagles (Pueblo East). 

The quarterfinal round will be in person, with No. 1 Chatfield Splatoon taking on No. 8 Valor Eagles, No. 2 Falcon Fresh facing No. 7 LHS Varsity Puddle of Squids, No. 3 Mountain Vista Big Swig Express meeting No. 6 Wicked-Fresh Salmon and No. 4 RMHS Lobos Varsity playing No. 5 SplatPack EHS. 

Quarterfinal round play will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the semifinals at 3 p.m. and the finals at 4 p.m. A trophy presentation will take place immediately after the championship round.
