Gymnastics: Mountain Range, Roosevelt Win Mountain Range Regional

WESTMINSTER - Mountain Range and Roosevelt won the Mountain Range Regional Gymnastics Championships Friday night at Mountain Range High School.

With a team score of 176.525, Mountain Range - the two-time defending state champions - won the 5A regional title. Thornton checked in second at 169.900, while Poudre School District was close behind, at 169.600. Heritage took fourth wtih a team score of 167.075 and Denver East was fifth at 132.175. 

In 4A, Roosevelt captured the regional title with a score of 179.525, while Pueblo Central took second with a score of 174.000. Northfield came in third (165.775), followed by Alamosa (158.325) in fourth. 

There's one final regional gymnastics championship remaining, which will take place on tomorrow at Arvada West.

WESTMINSTER - Mountain Range junior Ella Mikolajewski won the individual all-around with a score of 37.300. She also won the bars (9.500) beam (9.300) and floor (9.550).

The only individual winner was Poudre School District freshman Lily Petersen in the vault at 9.200.

In the all-around, after Mikolajewski, Poudre School District teammates Kate Gundelfinger (35.850) and Ava Phankot (34.900) finished second and third, respectively, with Pedersen and Heritage senior Reese Bryant finishing tied for fourth at 33.875.

Phankot, a sophomore, was second in bars (9.025), with Heritage freshman Lauren Atherton third (8.850) ahead of a tie for fourth between Gundelfinger and Thornton sophomore Isabelle Jetter at 8.725.

In the beam, Thornton senior Ashley Tefft was second at 9.050, ahead of a tie for third between Jetter and freshman Emily Ware of Mountain Range at 8.925. Gundelfinger, a senior, was fifth at 8.875.

On the floor, Heritage's Bryant (9.400) was second, senior Lexi Mowry (9.250) of Mountain Range was third, and the Poudre School District duo of Phankot (9.150) and Gundelfinger (9.075) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

And, on the vault behind Poudre School District's Petersen, there was a three-way tie for second at 9.175 among Gundelfinger, Tefft and Mowry, while Thornton junior Bridgit Hasley was fifth at 9.025.

WESTMINSTER - Pueblo Central's Karlee Knabenshue took first in the individual all-around with a score of 36.075, after also winning bars (9.275). Roosevelt's Lilly Rodriguez finished second with a score of 35.800, while teammate Kailiana Allen - who won vault (9.525) and floor (9.575) - was third overall, with a score of 35.650. 

Roosevelt's Rylie Krieger was the other individual event champion, claiming first on beam with a score of 8.850. Northfield's Sierra Davis was second on beam (8.725), while Roosevelt's Paige Garguilo was third with a score of 8.675, teammate Liviana White was fourth (8.650) and Pueblo Central's Ava Cozzetto rounded out the top five with a score of 8.450. 

On vault, Garguilo took second with a score of 9.500 and was followed by Knabenshue in third with a score of 9.475. Rodriguez claimed fourth, at 9.350, and Roosevelt teammate Brienna Hatton was fifth wtih a 9.100 score. 

Knabenshue and Rodriguez also finished 1-2 on bars, with Rodriguez posting a score of 8.925. Pueblo's Lily Nibert and Allen tied for third at 8.900 and Cozzetto was fifth at 8.850. 

Roosevelt dominated the floor exercise, capturing the top-four spots. Allen - a freshman - narrowly edged sophomore teammate, White, out of the top spot, 9.575-9.525, while Makaylee Meyer took third (9.450) and Rodriguez was fourth (9.375). In fifth place was Knabenshue (9.250).
