Gymnastics: Chatfield, Palmer Ridge Win Overland Regional

AURORA - Chatfield and Palmer Ridge won the Overland Regional Gymnastics Championships Thursday night at Overland High School.

With a team score of 174.525, Chatfield topped the 5A leaderboard, with Overland checking in second (174.400) and Ponderosa in third (169.425). Cherry Creek took fourth with a score of 167.125, and was followed by Columbine in fifth (156.825) and Rock Canyon in sixth (155.475).

In 4A, Palmer Ridge - the 2023 state champions - won the title with a team score of 176.850, while Elizabeth took second (175.525), Loveland third (162.775) and Bear Creek fourth (143.100). 

The other two regional gymnastics championships will take place on Friday and Saturday at Mountain Range and Arvada West, respectively.

DENVER - Overland's Abby Mess captured the all-around title at the Overland Regional Thursday night with a score of 35.5. She logged three individual event top-five finishes, taking second in bars (9.025), fourth on beam (9.15) and fifth on floor (8.975). 

Chatfield claimed the next three individual all-around finishers to win the team title. Marcela Gonzalez Moreno (35.35) was second in the all-around, while Hailey Unger (35.3) was third and Harriet Arnold (34.55) fourth. Overland's Josie Arlt rounded out the top five with a score of 34.5.

Ponderosa's Hallie Stoneberger won the vault with a score of 9.275. Second was Arnold (9.15) and Gonzalez Moreno took third (8.95). Cherry Creek's Sarah Hanson was fourth at 8.95, while Overland's Lilly Van Luitt took fifth with a score of 8.825. 

On bars, Rock Canyon's Callista Larson took gold with a score of 9.225. Following Mess was Pondera's Lexie Yourishin in third place, with a score of 8.95, Unger in fourth (8.95) and Chatfield's Lauren Oakeson in fifth (8.65). 

Unger captured the beam title with a score of 9.45. Overland's Stephanie Fernand was second at 9.25, while Gonzalez Moreno took third (9.175). Fourth went to Mess and Columbine's Samantha Zakhem was fifth with a score of 9.125. 

Oakeson won the floor with a 9.275, and was followed by Cherry Creek's Maggie Chang in second (9.225) and Fernand in third (9.175). Ponderosa's Lexie Yourishin took fourth with a score of 9.15 and Mess rounded out the top five.

DENVER - Elizabeth's Braeleigh Melsness captured the 4A All-Around title at the Overland Regional on Thursday with a score of 37.175. Melsness also won the vault (9.5), the beam (9.25) and the floor (9.575), while finishing second in bars (8.85). 

Palmer Ridge's Kaitlin McArthur won the bars with a score of 9.275 and finished second in the individual all-around with a combined score of 30.075. McArthur was second on the beam (9.175) and floor (9.375) and also took third on the vault (9.25). 

Mikaeli Torrez, also from Palmer Ridge, was third in the all-around with a score of 36.375. She was second in vault (9.375), third on bars (8.85), third on beam (9.025) and fifth on floor (9.125). 

Elizabeth's Kaelynn Gummerson and Sydney Tichota rounded out the top-five in the all-around, taking fourth and fifth, respectively. Gummerson logged a score of 35.325 and Tichota finished at 34.8. 

On beam, Bear Creek's Emma Dilley was fourth with a score of 9.05, while Tichota was fifth (9.025). 

On bars, Palmer Ridge's Gwyneth Davis finished fourth at 8.775, and was followed by Bear Creek's Myranda MacMillan (8.775).

Tichota and Davis rounded out the top-five on beam, with Tichota finishing with a score of 9.000 and Davis recording an 8.975. 

On floor, Palmer Ridge's Annie Shelley took third with a score of 9.275, while Gummerson was fourth (9.25).
