LAKEWOOD – A year after getting shut out in the first Class 4A state title game, the 2025 version of The Classical Academy flag football team flipped the script on Saturday.
At Trailblazer Stadium, the top-seeded Titans won 34-0 over No. 2 Mountain View to claim the school’s first state title in Colorado’s newest sanctioned sport. It was a rematch of the inaugural 4A title game, which Mountain View won 26-0 last year.
“This means a lot for our program,” Titans head coach Dale Meyerrose said. “This is the second season for girls flag football for Colorado high schools. We’ve been in the final game both years. Last year, we came out on the other end and this year we were determined to come out on the winning end. I think you saw that in the determination of our players.
“They just kept on helping each other. Even when we make mistakes, we know the most important play is the next play. That’s the way our team plays.”
The Titans drove for a touchdown on their opening possession of the game, then scored twice in the final four minutes of the first half to lead 21-0.
Brooklyn Blair played a huge role in both ate first-half scores, returning the first of her three interceptions 10 yards for a touchdown and then returning a punt to the 10-yard line for the next.
To reach the finals, The Classical Academy defeated No. 4 Green Mountain, 27-24. Mountain View won 13-12 over No. 3 Pomona in the opposite semifinal.
“Obviously, if the other team doesn’t score, you can’t lose the game,” Meyerrose said. “So, we wanted our defense to pressure the quarterback and make her make mistakes. They’re familiar with us, we’re familiar with them. We basically knew what their offensive scheme was and they knew ours. We just executed.”
