AURORA - The first round of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s esports postseason tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was completed today, seeing 32 teams advance to the second round.

The first round saw each of the top 16 seeds survived their matchups, making it a round with very few upsets. Six teams did manage to advance past higher seeds though, with No. 48 seed Cherry Creek being the lowest-seeded team to advance to the second round. Meanwhile, Fossil Ridge, Rangeview and Rocky Mountain improved their chances of capturing a state title, as they were the only schools to have multiple teams secure a spot in the second round.

The tournament is a single-elimination bracket with second-round games being played on Wednesday. The 16 winners on Wednesday will advance to the in-person final at Localhost on Thursday, May 2.
