DENVER – Friday night was a good one for the Denver Christian spirit program.
At the Denver Coliseum, the Thunder posted a score of 91.05 in the Class 2A all-girl cheer finals to take home its fourth-straight cheer title and fifth overall championship for spirit.
"I’m so proud of my team," Denver Christian head coach Gina Harris said. "This is my fourth year at Denver Christian, and we’ve won the state championships four years in a row. These seniors who built the program, our theme was ‘Legacy’ … they have built a legacy far beyond a state championship trophy because their identity is not in a trophy. Their identity is in Christ and their identity is in who God created them to be, and that’s what they demonstrated on the mat tonight."
Front Range Christian finished runner-up with a score of 74.5.
3A All-Girl Cheer
In Class 3A, Prospect Ridge won the all-girl cheer title with a score of 75.05, claiming its first title since 2021.
“This is a huge accomplishment for these girls,” Prospect Ridge head coach Nicolette Griffith said. “They have worked so hard this year. They really, 100 percent, are a true family. If just one is missing, they can’t go on. It takes every single one of them, all 18, to put this out there. I couldn’t be more proud of them.
“The teams we go up against – Highland, James Irwin, pretty much everyone in the 3A category – are amazing cheerleaders. So for us to be at the very top, it shows that there were so many other great teams pushing us to be there.”
James Irwin placed second with a score 75.05.
4A All-Girl Cheer
In Class 4A, the Windsor Wizards scored 85.3 points in the finals to take home the first-place trophy. It was the program’s first-ever spirit title.
“This is the first time Windsor High School has ever won state cheer,” Windsor coach Liz Kampschroder said, who coaches alongside Sam Murray. “We were undefeated this season. We’re made up of a bunch of great seniors all the way down to freshmen. They all worked incredibly hard to do this.
“We don’t coach to win, we just coach them to be better every single time. That’s always our goal, to feel proud about what they did. With that said, we knew that we just had to come and do better than we did last week. And we did.”
Lutheran was second with a score of 78.85.
5A All-Girl Cheer
In Class 5A, Mountain Vista won its first title since 2007 with a finals score of 91.1 in the finals.
“It’s been an incredible season. I just knew this was the team that was going to take it,” Mountain Vista coach Carrie Gerry said. “Just the passion, the energy these kids have has been there since the beginning. We’ve just been on a steady climb all season. The warm up room was literally magical. We did drop a single stunt and the girls were just dancing instead of doing skills because they were having so much fun.
“I just knew it was going to happen and I’m so, so proud of them.”
Douglas County finished runner-up with a score of 90.2 in the finals.
