Gymnastics: Mountain Range, Niwot Win State Championships

THORNTON -  The first day of the 2024 Gymnastics State Championships wrapped up Thursday night with Mountain Range claiming the 5A team title, and Overland finishing second, while Niwot came away with the 4A championship, which was postponed until Saturday morning, and Standley Lake took second.

Mountain Range's Frankie MacAskill made history during the individual finals, scoring perfect 10s on both the floor exercise and uneven bars to become the first gymnast to ever score two perfect 10s in the championship finals, doing so at the same meet. 

Arvada West's Layla Petz claimed the 5A individual All-Around title, while Mountain Range's Frankie MacAskill and Denver East's Lyla Allman took second and third, respectively.

In 4A, Niwot's Genevieve Saunders took home the individual All-Around title, while Standley Lake's Merrick Nakatsu was second and Northfield's Ocean Pierce and Niwot's Lilly O'Neill tied for third. 

The individual all-around champions will be crowned tonight as weather altered the championship schedule
