4A Boys Tennis: Semifinalist Matches Set for Tomorrow

PUEBLO - The first day of the 4A Boys Tennis Individual State Championships is in the books with tomorrow’s semifinal round matchups set. The semifinal round will begin at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning at Pueblo City Park, with the first-round playbacks beginning immediately after. The second-round playback matches will take place after that, followed by the finals matches at approximately 2 p.m. and the third-place matches at approximately 3 p.m.  

Kent Denver has advanced all seven lines to tomorrow's semifinals, while D'Evelyn advanced six and Colorado Academy advanced five. Grand Junction, Peak to Peak and Vail Christian all advanced two lines, while Cheyenne Mountain, Evergreen, Niwot and Thomas Jefferson advanced one each. 
 
In No. 1 singles, Kent Denver senior Nathan Gold will face Cheyenne Mountain senior Andrew Ballenger in the semifinals, while Vail Christian senior Daniel Blanch will take on D’Evelyn freshman Nithesh Karappasamy in the other semifinal.
  • If Gold advances, Severance senior Joel Carter and Palmer Ridge Brady Truong would advance to the first-round playbacks.
  • If Ballenger advances, Colorado Academy senior Charlie May and Pueblo Central Tyler Thielemier would face one another in the first-round playbacks.
  • If Blanch advances, the first-round playback match would be between George Washington junior Andrew Rettig and Thomas Jefferson sophomore Dylan (Tuna) AHL.
  • If Karappasamy advances, Niwot senior Sebastian Moy and Air Academy Ky Walker would meet in the first-round playbacks.
In No. 2 singles, Vail Christian senior Wyat Fisher advanced to the semifinals to face D’Evelyn senior Eric Pham, while Grand Junction Peter Phillips and Kent Denver Will Moldenhauer advanced to the other semifinal.
  •  If Fisher advances, it would set up a meeting between George Washington senior Travis Nguyen and Cheyenne Mountain senior Abram Twede in the first-round playbacks.
  • If Pham advances, the first-round playbacks would feature Colorado Academy sophomore Jackson Wells vs. Evergreen junior Colin Meany.
  • If Phillips advances, the first-round playbacks match would be between Peak to Peak senior Ben Swartz and Coronado senior Michael Wojtalewicz.
  • If Moldenhauer advances, Niwot junior Chalrie Kirtland and Dawson School Cole Cohen would meet in the first-round playbacks.
In No. 3 singles, Grand Junction freshman Elijah Wright and Kent Denver senior Max Gart will meet in one semifinal, while Colorado Academy freshman Marcus Magno and D’Evelyn senior Xalen Mitchell will meet in the other.
  • If Wright advances, Thomas Jefferson senior Caleb Stork would face Discovery Canyon sophomore Caleb Davis in the first round playback.
  • If Gart advances, Peak to Peak sophomore Shreyas Sundaresan and Mullen sophomore Brycen O’Dell would meet in the first-round playback.
  • If Magno advances, George Washington junior Sam Eikenberry would take on Silver Creek senior Ashton Ballingham in the first-round playback.
  • If Mitchell advances, the first-round playback match would be between Vail Christian sophomore Teddy Brunner and Cheyenne Mountain junior Nick Page.
In No. 1 doubles, Colorado Academy senior Charlie Rakowski and senior Jackson Gilliland will meet D’Evelyn senior Elias Adams and junior Dylan Reeb in the semifinals, while Peak to Peak senior Derek Toth and senior Dhruv Shajikumar will play Kent Denver sophomore Noah Bogel and junior Liam O’Drobinak.
  • If Colorado Academy advances, Steamboat Springs senior Damien Dobson and junior Matthew MacEntee would advance to the first-round playbacks to face Wheat Ridge sophomore Brendan Buckley and sophomore Jakob Moore. 
  • If D’Evelyn advances, George Washington junior Matt Holliger and senior Adam Wang will take on Air Academy senior Oliver Haddad and freshman Isaac Dyer in the first-round playbacks. 
  • If Peak to Peak advances, Evergreen senior Charlie Barwell and freshman Zach Schoonover will meet Thomas Jefferson senior Gabe Robert and sophomore Cam Ide in the first-round playbacks. 
  • If Kent Denver advances, Grand Junction junior Jack Willing and sophomore Jacob Smith will meet Cheyenne Mountain senior Remy Matignon and senior Wyatt Smith in the first-round playbacks.
In No. 2 doubles, Kent Denver senior Jack Cramer and senior Simon Hirsch will meet Evergreen senior Alex Speyer and senior Marlow Hampton in the semifinals, while D’Evelyn sophomore Simon Czarnecki and junior Anthony Czarnecki will play Colorado Academy senior Jackson Turner and junior Craig Stapleton.
  • If Kent Denver advances, Air Academy senior Tommy Tygart and junior Parker Lee will meet Mullen junior Clarke Shields and sophomore Carter Thies in the first-round playbacks.
  • If Evergreen advances, Peak to Peak junior Dmitri Zaronias and senior David Pyun and Niwot senior Gabe Bandera and senior Andrew Fong will face in the first-round playbacks. 
  • If D’Evelyn advances, Grand Junction sophomore Gareth Keller and freshman Grant Gear will play Dawson School senior Dawson Kusel and sophomore Parker Sullivan in the first-round playbacks. 
  • If Colorado Academy advances, Discovery Canyon junior Andrew Hiles and senior Krue Leonard will qualify for the first-round playbacks and will face Fountain Valley junior Leo Nemschoff and sophomore Matt Olezeski.
In No. 3 doubles, Kent Denver senior Cole Fenton and freshman Vyaan Chopra advances to the semifinals and will face Evergreen sophomore Jack Bruhin and junior Baxter Stewart, while D’Evelyn senior Henry Rumph and junior Cael Parker will meet Colorado Academy junior Oliver Neely and freshman Bennett Neely.
  • If Kent Denver advances, Vail Christian junior Blake Kirkham and senior Javier Hernandez will take on Mullen sophomore Noah Stevenson and sophomore Zander Lawrence in the first-round playbacks.  
  • If Evergreen advances, George Washington senior Matt Abrams and freshman Aaron Whiteley will face Cheyenne Mountain sophomore Jonathan Barnsbee and sophomore Grayson Toepfer in the first-round playbacks. 
  • If D’Evelyn advances, Thomas Jefferson junior Ambrose Stevens and junior Ryder O’Keefe will play Silver Creek sophomore Miles Lacis and sophomore Nishcal Gorla in the first-round playbacks. 
  • If Colorado Academy advances, Dawson School junior Colin McLeod and freshman Bassam ElHoury and Grand Junction junior Jude Knaysi and freshman Maximus Kintz will look to make their way back through the first-round playbacks.
In No. 4 doubles, Kent Denver junior Reid Calamari and senior Cabot Miner will face Thomas Jefferson freshman Andrew Van Abbema and sophomore Oli Franco in the semifinals, while Niwot senior Tyler Chivakula and senior Olli Jones will take on Colorado Academy sophomore Peter Owen and freshman Hendrik Jordaan.
  • If Kent Denver advances, D’Evelyn senior Francis Lis and junior Daniel Sias will move on to the first-round playbacks and face George Washington senior Emilio Morfin and senior Devon Carribine.
  • If Thomas Jefferson advances, Air Academy senior Caleb Hendrickson and senior Paul Harley will meet Vail Christian freshman Owen Rey and junior Hans Wittenburg in the first-round playbacks. 
  • If Niwot advances, Cheyenne Mountain junior Jonathan Shark and junior Daniel Park will meet Grand Junction junior Finn Struwe and freshman Jack Yu in the first-round playbacks.
  • If Colorado Academy advances, Evergreen senior Jacob Mays and sophomore Micah Mays will take on Peak to Peak freshman Damian Gorsevski and junior Gabe Torgusen in the first-round playbacks.
