Cross Country State Championships Information

AURORA - The 2023 Colorado high school boys and girls state cross country championships will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.
 
All classifications will compete on the same day, with the 2A girls race beginning at 9 a.m., followed by 4A boys at 9:40 a.m., 2A boys at 10:20 a.m., 4A girls at 11 a.m., the unified race at 11:40 a.m., 3A boys at 12:20 p.m., 5A girls at 1 p.m., 3A girls at 1:40 p.m. and 5A boys at 2:20 p.m.
 
How do teams qualify for the state championships?
For 2A, the top-five teams from each of the four regional championships, in addition to any athlete that finishes in the top-15 at regionals, will advance to the state meet. Full teams must consist of 4-8 members and will score four.
 
For 3A, 4A and 5A, the top-four teams from each of the five regional championships, in addition to any athlete that finishes in the top-15 at regionals, will advance to the state meet. Full teams must consist of 5-9 members and will score five.

How does scoring work at the state championships?
For 2A, teams can run six athletes, with the top four scoring.
 
For 3A, 4A and 5A, teams can run seven athletes, with the top five scoring.
 
Individual runners are pulled out for purpose of team scoring.
 
What is the distance and conditions of the course?
The course is a 5000m course and consists of rolling hills, dirt, prairie grass and a creek bed.
 
What is the distance of the Unified cross country course?
The Paralympic/Unified Cross Country course (course map) is approximately 2.75K (about 1.7 miles).
 
What happens in the case of a tie?
Ties in team scoring will be broken in accordance with the NFHS rule 8-2-4 and 8-2-5. This is the same tie-breaking process that is used at all regional meets.
 
Will there be a trophy presentation?
All individual awards will be presented after each race and all team awards will be presented following the last race of their classification.
 
Who has qualified for the state championships?
The official list of qualifiers will be posted following the conclusion of the regional championships.
 
Where can I find past champions or team winners?
The digital program includes information on past champions, winners and more! Past champions can also be found in the championship archive.
 
Is there parking available on site?
Parking for the state championships cost $20 per car and is available on site.
 
If I can’t make it to the race, can I watch it online?
There will be a live stream of each of the races available on the NFHS Network.
 
Will there be merchandise to purchase on site?

What happens in the case of rain, or bad weather?
