Boys Golf State Championship Information

AURORA - The 2023 Colorado high school state golf championships will take place on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2-3.

With three classifications in golf, the championships will be hosted across three different sites:
  • Class 5A: Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins
  • Class 4A: The Bridges Golf & Country Club in Montrose
  • Class 3A: RainDance National Resort & Golf in Windsor

How do teams qualify for the state championships?
All state championship participants must qualify through their regional competition. The top two team and 13 individual finishers in each of the four regions per class will advance to the state championship. In total, 21 players from each region will comprise the field of 84 at the state championship.

Who has qualified for the state championships?
The official list of qualifiers will be posted following the conclusion of the regional championships.

Where can I find results?
Live results for both rounds and all three classifications can be found on iWanamaker.com. A playoff subscription will be required to access the hole-by-hole results.

What time will the course open?
The courses open one hour before the first scheduled tee time on both Monday and Tuesday.

Do I need to buy a ticket to enter?
There are no tickets needed to attend the state golf championships.

How do we know who is paired together?
Pairings will be announced once the qualifiers are determined following the conclusion of the regional championships.

When will play start?
For 5A, teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. from tees No. 1 and No. 10.
For 4A, teams will tee off at 9 a.m. from tees No. 1 and No. 10.
For 3A, teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. from Tees No. 1 and No. 13.

How do we know what a certain player’s tee time is?
Golfers will play in threesomes and will be spaced at nine-minute intervals from both starting tees. The first groups will start between 8:30 and 9 a.m. The exact starting and tee times will be distributed when qualifiers are known.

How are pairings and tee times determined?
The CHSAA office will make the pairings and assign tee times for the first round based on team and individual IWR rankings. Players from the same school will not be paired together. The priority will be to pair teams first and then individuals.

Starting times for the second round of the state championship will be in a “U” configuration. On the No. 1 tee, the lower half of scores will play in order of high to low, beginning at 8:30 or 9 a.m. On the No. 10 tee (or No. 13 tee for 3A), the higher half of scores will play in order of low to high, beginning with the first tee time.

What is the format of play?
The tournament will be a 36-hole, two-day stroke play tournament to determine the individual champion. The team champion will be decided by the top-three team scorers.

The first 18 holes will be played on Monday, with the final 18 holes played on Tuesday.

Will there be a trophy presentation?
Individual and team presentations will take place immediately after the committee has checked all results. The first and second place team will be awarded plaques, with the top-10 finishers earning medals.

What happens in the case of a tie?
Only first place ties will be determined through a hole-by-hole playoff. All other ties will remain tied.

Where can I find past champions or team winners?
The digital program includes information on past champions, winners and more! Past champions can also be found in the championship archive.

What happens in the case of rain, or bad weather?
The tournament committee will determine suspension of play and USGA rules will prevail. Any modifications made to the event will be posted on CHSAANow.com. You can also follow @CHSAA on Twitter/X for the most up-to-date information.

Note: Hole-by-hole results will be available for each championship on iWanamaker.com. A playoff subscription will be required to access the results.
