Marisa Tenorio, Damon Cook Join CHSAA as Spring 2024 Interns
AURORA – The Colorado High School Activities Association is excited to announce that Marisa Tenorio and Damon Cook will serve as the organization’s Spring 2024 interns.
Tenorio returns to CHSAA for a second semester, as she also spent the Fall 2023 semester working under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Rashaan Davis. Tenorio, participating in the Sports Management Internship Program, assisted the office with all aspects of organizing, planning and hosting the fall state championship events and conferences.
“Marisa has been all you can ask of in an intern and so much more,” Davis said. “Whether it has been her work within the office or at championship events, Marisa is always ready to go above and beyond. There has not been a task asked of her that she has not completed at the very highest level. She looks forward to sitting in on as many meetings as possible, in an effort to learn every area of activity administration.
“All of that said, I believe her gift to this work is her ability to work with anyone. No matter the situation, Marisa always shows up with a servant attitude, a strong desire to learn, and an ability to connect with others. These skills will carry her a long way in the workforce, but even further in life. I am so happy to have her as a member of our staff, and I look forward to all the great things coming her way in the next semester with us, and beyond.”
Tenorio, bilingual in both Spanish and English, graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver in May with her bachelors in sports management. A member of MSU Denver’s Sport Management Club, she also spent the fall semester working with Sportswomen of Colorado, where she organized satellite clinics for women’s college teams to visit local elementary schools and host a sports clinic during the PE classes.
Formerly a guest relations team member with Empower Field SMC, Tenorio has also spent time with the Colorado Golf Association and has volunteered at events such as MSU Denver’s Women in Sport Management Panel, MSU Denver’s Day of Giving E-Sports Tournament and the Sportswomen of Colorado’s 49th Annual Awards Celebration.
Cook will begin his first semester with CHSAA this spring, working with the communications department. His responsibilities will focus on administrative duties, such as creation of the All-State Teams, record book updates and posting of the Seedings Index. He will also provide in-person coverage of championship events and feature-related content for CHSAANow.com for all of CHSAA’s winter and spring sports and activities.
“I am extremely excited to welcome someone of Damon’s ability to CHSAA,” Director of Communications Amanda McClure said. “We had the pleasure of working with Damon in a freelance capacity throughout the fall semester and quickly identified him as someone who would fit well at CHSAA. He brings a wealth of journalistic experience with him, so we look forward to giving him exposure to some more administrative tasks and processes that will help broaden his experiences as he looks to enter the workforce.”
Cook is a rising senior at Colorado State University, where he serves as the sports editor for the Rocky Mountain Collegian. He’s reported on all 16 NCAA Division I sports at CSU, in addition to covering CSU’s vast recreation league and intramural sports, while directing a staff of seven and serving as a copy editor for the student newspaper. Majoring in journalism and media communication, with a minor in sports management, Cook is looking forward to graduating in December 2024.
