John Sullivan selected as new CHSAA assistant commissioner

The Colorado High School Activities Association has named John Sullivan to be the next assistant commissioner.

Sullivan has worked in public education for 22 years as a teacher, a coach of both boys and girls sports, and an administrator. Currently the athletic and activities director at Vista PEAK Preparatory, he is also the league president of the EMAC and serves on the CHSAA football committee.

“I have been lucky enough to work with some amazing people as a coach and athletic director and I look forward to expanding that work throughout Colorado,” Sullivan said. “I am beyond excited for the opportunity to work with the current CHSAA team and assuming my role with them.”

With a wealth of experience in helping develop student athletes, Sullivan will take over the assistant commissioner position that was recently vacated by Adam Bright, who oversaw football, wrestling and baseball, and will assume the majority of Bright’s responsibilities.

Sullivan has served as athletic and activities director at Vista PEAK since 2017. Prior to that, he taught physical science, geology, physics and principals of engineering there for four years. He started the AP Physics program at Vista PEAK, which he also did at Rangeview while teaching the same subjects from 1999-2013.

Between Vista PEAK and Rangeview, Sullivan has coached football, boys basketball, girls basketball, track and field and baseball. He was the head football coach at Vista PEAK from 2015-2021.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome John to our CHSAA Staff family,” said Mike Krueger, who will take over as the 10th commissioner of the 100-year-old CHSAA organization starting July 1. “John is a veteran educator, coach and athletics and activities administrator who brings passion, experience and a humble heart to this important role. John is a servant leader through and through. His propensity for connecting and building relationships with colleagues and stakeholders is an incredible strength and will serve our membership well."
