Gilbert Cruter

An all-around athlete at Denver West High School, Gilbert Cruter’s career had many distinguishing accomplishments. He became the first black teacher hired by Denver Public Schools, then became the first black coach in the district when he took over the head track post at Manual High School in 1948. He has served on numerous diplomatic assignments with the State Department and was a standout track athlete at the University of Colorado
