Bill McGrawFew have served the CHSAA with the distinction of McGraw. He served as Presidentof the CHSAA from 1967-68, coach, official, innovator, author, teacher, committee member and administrator for nearly 30 years. A 1940 graduate of Paonia HighSchool, McGraw returned to the Western Slope after college to serve as head of thephysical education department, head basketball and track coach and assistant football coach for five years at Grand Junction High School.He was appointed Supervisor of Physical Education and Athletics for Mesa County Valley School District and helped establish the Grand Junction area as a leader across the state in physical education and athletics. He authored the "Elementary Physical Education Handbook" that was used extensively throughout the state and served as president of the Colorado Physical Education and Recreation Associationfrom 195657 and as chairman of the Western CAPERD for many years.
McGraw served as a Board of Control Representative, Track Committee member for nine years, Tournament and Playoff Finance Committee member for seven years and Wrestling Committee member for 10 years.
He also served as chairman of the WesternAppeals Board. He served as director of the A, AA and AAA district track meets held in Grand Junction for 17 years. Despite the pressure for time in his position with the Mesa County Valley Schools, McGraw officiated football for 25 years and basketball for 16 years at the high school and college levels.
