Alice BarronAlice Barron was the Coordinator of Athletics for Jefferson County Schools. Her impact on high school athletics has been significant, particularly in the early years of girls athletics where her efforts have helped girls' athletics grow from almost no participation in 1967 to its current rate in Colorado high schools. Since 1975, Jefferson County girls' teams have won 31 of 95 available state championships.
Barron registered many firsts for the CHSAA, including work as a charter member of the Girls' Sports Coordinating Committee, first woman representative on the CHSAA Board of Control, first female member of the CHSAA Basketball Committee and first woman member and president of the Colorado Athletic Directors Association. Her latest efforts have been to improve school coaching through several certificationcommittees.
An All-America basketball player at Wayland Baptist University, Barron was a standout athlete in high school in Georgetown, Texas. She earned 16 letters in four sports, while playing two simultaneously. She has been honored by numerous organizations for her work in high school athletics, including the 1989 Athletic Director of the Year for Region VI by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association, induction into the Colorado Coaches of Girls' Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and a citation awarded by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
She has also been presented honor awards by the Colorado Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation Directors, Colorado Volleyball Officials Association and Metro Gymnastics Judges Association.
