AURORA - The first round of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 2026 Girls Tennis Team State Championships have been completed. The winning teams have advanced to the quarterfinal round, which will be played Friday.
In both the 5A and 4A brackets, all eight of the higher seeds advanced, while the 3A bracket featured two upsets.
In the 5A bracket, two higher seeds were victorious, as No. 12 Mountain Vista knocked off No. 5 Fairview 4-3 and No. 10 Denver South defeated No. 7 Fossil Ridge 5-2. In other matchups, there were four 7-0 sweeps as No. 1 Ralston Valley defeated No. 16 Boulder, No. 2 Cherry Creek topped No. 15 Pine Creek, No. 3 Valor Christian defeated No. 14 Arapahoe and No. 4 Rock Canyon beat No. 13 Columbine. Also Wednesday, No. 6 Rocky Mountain edged No. 11 Heritage 4-3, and No. 8 Regis Jesuit defeated No. 9 Legacy 5-2.
In the quarterfinals, Ralston Valley faces Regis Jesuit, Cherry Creek takes on Denver South, Valor Christian plays Rocky Mountain, and Rock Canyon plays Mountain Vista.
In the 4A bracket, there was one 7-0 result (No. 3 Mullen over No. 14 Ponderosa), one 5-2 outcome (No. 6 Grand Junction over No. 11 Thompson Valley), and six 6-1 contests (No. 1 Cheyenne Mountain over No. 16 Rampart, No. 2 Kent Denver over No. 16 Discovery Canyon, No. 4 Air Academy over No. 13 Longmont, No. 5 Niwot over No. 12 Green Mountain, No. 7 Durango over No. 10 Canon City, No. 9 Windsor over No. 8 Palmer Ridge).
In the quarterfinal round, Cheynne Mountain plays Windsor, Kent Denver plays Durango, Mullen takes on Grand Junction, and Air Academy faces Niwot.
In the 3A bracket, No. 1 Vail Christian deated No. 16 Conifer 7-0, No. 2 D'Evelyn beat No. 15 Dawson School 6-1, No. 3 Prospect Ridge Academy beat No. 14 University 7-0, No. 4 Lutheran topped No. 13 Timnath 6-1, No. 5 Colorado Academy shut out No. 12 Wellington 7-0, No. 7 Holy Family defeated No. 10 Peak to Peak 7-0, and No. 8 Eaton beat No. 9 St. Mary's Academy 5-2.
