Monica Tillman Recognized by IAABO

AURORA - At the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) Fall Seminar on Sunday in Colorado Springs, Monica Tillman - the Colorado High School Activities Association’s Senior Coordinator of Sports and Officials - was recognized by the IAABO for her work with officials in Colorado.

Tillman, who’s been with CHSAA for the last 21 years, has been working with officials in the state for the last 20 years. She was honored alongside two longtime Colorado basketball officials – Paul Webber and Tom Bennett – who each received Life Membership Awards from the IAABO for their dedication, leadership and impact on the organization.

“Donnie Eppley, the IAABO Executive Director, and I wanted to acknowledge Monica's tireless efforts in maintaining Colorado Board 4's basketball membership,” said Bob Lantzy, President of the IAABO. “She is responsible for the largest officials organization in Colorado and her support is flawless. Her efforts in ensuring background checks are completed and fees are paid to mailing our handbooks… we are so appreciative of her work. We simply wanted to let her know how much we appreciate her and wanted to acknowledge her outstanding support to Colorado Board 4 and IAABO.”

“To say that I am proud of Monica is an understatement,” said CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Mike Book, who oversees officiating in Colorado. “Her recognition from the IAABO for her outstanding efforts in taking care of Colorado’s officials is truly special. I think we can all agree that we would be lost without Monica Tillman!”

Throughout her time with CHSAA, Tillman has worked with officials for all sports sanctioned by the association, while her and Book also oversee boys and girls swimming and diving and boys and girls golf at the state level.

In addition to managing Arbiter – the online platform for officials – she’s the first point of contact for all new officials in the state before connecting them with an area director for assignment. Included in her day-to-day duties, she not only registers officials, but she distributes information, sends out rule books, coordinates postseason officials’ assignments and manages the officials’ fee structure.

“It was truly my pleasure to be recognized by IAABO and the Colorado Board #4 Officials on a night where a few of our Colorado officials were receiving their Life Membership Awards,” Tillman shared. “I owe such gratitude to both Associations and their members. Being recognized on such a special night was something I never expected and am very proud of.”
