AURORA - The National Association of Student Councils (NASC) has named 22 Colorado high schools student councils a National Council of Excellence, with all 22 earning Gold Council status.

In addition, two student councils – Central High School and Eagle Ridge Academy – have achieved “Decade of Excellence” status by receiving NCOE honors for the past 10 years!

"We are incredibly proud of the schools across Colorado that have earned the distinction of National Council of Excellence," said Rashaan Davis, CHSAA's Assistant Commissioner who oversees student leadership at the state level in Colorado. "This recognition reflects the tireless work of student councils and their advisers to foster leadership, create access and opportunity, and elevate student voice. These councils embody CHSAA’s mission of education-based participation by making their schools more inclusive, connected, and student-centered. Their efforts are not only improving campus culture—they’re preparing students to lead with purpose and integrity well beyond high school."

Abraham Lincoln, Arvada West, Boulder, Brighton, Broomfield, Central, Cheyenne Mountain, Durango, Eagle Ridge, Fountain-Fort Carson, Greeley West, Horizon, Legacy, Lewis-Palmer, Loveland, Manitou Springs, Mountain Range, Peak to Peak, Riverdale Ridge, Stargate, The Academy of Charter Schools and Westminster were all recognized as NCOE-Gold student councils.

In order to earn the National Council of Excellence Award, a student council must meet a variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements, such as a written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community.
