Esports: Student Mental Wellness Curriculum Development Sessions

AURORA - The Colorado High School Activities Association's student mental wellness partner, Work2BeWell, is beginning the process of creating curriculum specifically focused on mental wellness in gaming and esports, and they would love the help of Colorado coaches and players.

For those who may not be familiar, Work2BeWell is a national youth-led, adult-supported initiative of Providence Health. Their mission is to empower teens to take charge of their own mental health and wellness while advocating for peers, schools, and communities. They provide resources and curriculum to help students navigate stress, anxiety, balance, and overall mental wellness - making them an incredible partner for our esports community.

To assist in shaping this curriculum, there are two meeting opportunities to be involved in:

  1. Esports Coaches Session on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 4-5 p.m.

  1. Student Players and Coaches Session on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 4-5 p.m .

Each meeting will be no longer than an hour and will function as a “brain dump” session.

For students interested in participating, talk with your esports coach to get the link information. For coaches that need more information, please reach out to CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Rashaan Davis

To RSVP for one of hte sessions or to share feedback, please complete this form.

In this type of session, participants are invited to share raw ideas, experiences, concerns, and insights freely, without worrying about organizing them or making them perfect. The goal is simply to capture as many authentic perspectives as possible - Work2BeWell will then organize and build from the collective input.

For those who are inviting student contributors but may have concerns about privacy of information, there was a release form included in an email that was sent out to all coaches.

As esports participants and coaches, your voice and perspective are invaluable. CHSAA believes this project could serve as a model for how mental wellness can be supported within gaming and esports communities.

There will also be staff from Discord and Thriving in Games Group at these meetings.
