Esports: In-Person State Championship Set for Thursday at Localhost

AURORA - The second-ever esports state championships for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart will be contested in person at Localhost on Thursday.

Bracket play for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament began with the first round on April 15 and followed with the second round on April 17. The 16 teams remaining have advanced to the finals site and will begin play with the third round on Thursday at 9 a.m. The quarterfinal round will then take place at 10:30 a.m., followed by the semifinals at noon and the finals at 1:30 p.m. The trophy presentation will take place immediately after the final game. 

Play in the Mario Kart bracket started with the 16-team first round on April 18 and the quarterfinals on April 22. The in-person semifinals will begin at Localhost at 3 p.m., followed by the championship game at 5 p.m. The trophy presentation will take place immediately after the final game. 

In total, 18 schools will be represented at the final site with Pueblo West and Rocky Mountain fielding a team in both tournaments. Rocky Mountain swept both the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart titles at least year's inaugural championship.

Both of this year's championships will be broadcast live on Twitch. Spectators are also welcome to come to Localhost to view the games in person.
