3A Boys Golf Regionals Round Up: State Qualifiers Secured

AURORA - The 3A boys golf regional championships wrapped up Tuesday evening with all eight automatic qualifiers being determined over the course of Monday and Tuesday.

Peak to Peak (Region 2), Holy Family (Region 3) and Resurrection Christian (Region 4) all claimed regional championships, while Kent Denver and Monte Vista tied for first place in Region 1. Eaton (Region 3) and Vail Mountain (Region 4) finished runner-up in its respective regions, while SkyView won a second-place tiebreaker in Region 2 to claim the final team spots in the upcoming state championship.

The 3A Boys Golf State Championship will be held on Oct. 2-3 at RainDance National Resort & Golf in Windsor.
    

Region 1

ALAMOSA (Sept. 19) - Kent Denver and Monte Vista finished tied for first at 21-over 234 in the 3A Boys Golf Region 1 Regional at Cattails Golf Club Tuesday. As the top-two team finishers, both have clinched a spot in the upcoming 3A Boys Golf State Championship.
 
Individually, Pagosa Springs sophomore Johnathan Smith ended on a hot streak, turning in an eagle and two birdies on the final three holes to finish the day at 2-under 69 and secure his place at the upcoming state championship.
 
Las Animas junior Damien Baca also secured a spot at states, as he and Monte Vista junior Liam Ellithorpe turned in matching 76s to finish tied for second. Golden View Classical Academy junior David Thomson and Kent Denver senior Luke Fisher rounded out the top five, as the duo placed tied for fourth with 77 strokes.
 
A three-way tie for sixth saw Kent Denver senior Lev Abramson, Monte Vista freshman Connor Mellott and Golden View Classical Academy freshman Collen Todd all sign for 78s. Kent Denver senior Ryan McMullan and Montezuma Cortez junior Vince Lopez rounded out the top-10, finishing tied for ninth, at 79.
 
As a team, Montezuma Cortez finished third at 247, while Golden View Classical Academy took fourth, at 250, and Pagosa Springs turned in a 255 to finish fifth.

Region 2

AURORA (Sept. 19) - With a trio of Pumas sweeping the top three individual spots, Peak to Peak ran away with the 3A Boys Golf Region 2 Championship at Commonground Golf Course on Tuesday. Peak to Peak finished at 1-over 214 to claim its spot in the upcoming 3A Boys Golf State Championship, while Colorado Academy and SkyView Academy tied for second at 237 apiece.

Due to winning a head-to-head tiebreaker, SkyView Academy will advance to the state championship as the second automatic qualifier from Region 2. 
 
Junior Om Mathur took home medalist honors for Peak to Peak with a 1-under 70, while senior George Grady and sophomore Jack Brayman finished tied for second at 1-over 72.
 
SkyView Academy junior Landon Webb placed fourth with a 2-over 73, while classmate Joshua Reeves and D’Evelyn senior Taj Kumar finished one stroke back and tied for fifth at 74.
 
Colorado Academy junior Teddy Hardy, Dawson senior Jimmy Leuchten and Manitou Springs freshman Hayden Dorsey all finished in a three-way tie for seventh, at 77, while Colorado Academy senior Rowan Brown took 10th with a 78.
 
Among the teams, D’Evelyn claimed fourth with a 241, while Dawson was fifth at 246.

GREELEY (Sept. 19) - Eaton had a pair of golfers finish in the top three, but Holy Family placed all three of its team scorers in the top seven to edge the Reds out of first place and win the 3A Boys Golf Region 3 Regional by one stroke, 232-233. As the top-two team finishers at Boomerang Golf Links, both Holy Family and Eaton will advance to the upcoming 3A Boys Golf State Championship.
 
Liberty Common senior Ryan Woodley clinched his spot at the state tournament by taking home medalist honors with a 1-over 73. Eaton sophomore Dayne Schmidke was one stroke back and in second place with a 74, while senior teammate Peyton Walker was third. He signed for a 76.
 
Frontier Academy sophomore Christian Arguello tied for fourth with a pair of Holy Family seniors – Drake Krommenhoek and Rudiger Heitz, as the trio all carded 77s throughout the round. There was also a three-way tie for seventh, as Holy Family senior Ty Bairrington, Berthoud sophomore Ezra Keller and Severance senior Ryan Ewoniuk each turned in a 78.
 
Timnath sophomore Jackson Summers, Wray senior Rydge Peterson, Timnath sophomore Davis Walter and Holy Family senior Wiley St. Germain rounded out the top-10, with the quartet tying for 10th at 79.
 
Timnath and Libery Common finished tied for third among a close team race, carding a 239, while Wray and Severance tied for fifth at 243.

Resurrection Christian won the 3A Boys Golf Region 4 Championship

DELTA (Sept. 18) - Resurrection Christian swept the top three spots of the 3A Boys Golf Region 4 Regional at the Devil’s Thumb Golf Club on Monday to clinch its spot in the upcoming 3A Boys Golf State Championship. The Cougars put together a winning score of 225, while Vail Mountain secured the second team spot in the state championship with a runner-up finish and score of 239.
 
Sophomore Clint Summers claimed medalist honors for Resurrection Christian, finishing with a 1-over 73, while classmates Jack Carter and Micah Livingstone tied for second at 76 each.
 
Aspen senior Sasha Forman clinched his spot in the state championship with a fourth-place finish and score of 77. Moffat County senior Aron Jennings – also a state championship qualifier, Vail Mountain senior Tiki Jaffe and Vail Christian junior Sam Casey all tied for fifth at 78.
 
Vail Christian junior Austin Reyna finished eighth with a 79 and held a one-stroke lead over the three-way tie that rounded out the top 10, as Gunnison junior Preston Pike, Basalt junior Jackson Stewart and Vail Mountain senior Brady Malboeuf all finished ninth with an 80.
 
Aspen finished third in the team race with a round-score of 241, two strokes back from Vail Mountain and one stroke ahead of Vail Christian, which finished fourth at 242. Basalt rounded out the top-five with a 246.
