Football State Champions Crowned

PUEBLO - All seven of the Colorado High School Activities Association's state football champions have been crowned, with Stratton (6-man), Mancos (8-man), Limon (1A), Delta (2A), Holy Family (3A), Erie (4A) and Columbine (5A) claiming titles.

With a 69-14 win over Cheyenne Wells on Friday, Nov. 24, Stratton claimed the first of the championships at CSU Pueblo's ThunderBowl, winning the 6-man state title to become just the fifth school in state history to win at least 10 football championships. The Eagles captured their second-straight title and eighth outright football state title, while it also owns two state crowns while in a co-op with Liberty. 

In the second game of the day, Mancos ran away from Haxtun for a 40-0 victory. This marks Mancos' first-ever statet title in football. 

Limon capped off the three championship weekend games at the ThunderBowl, winning its 22nd title with a 50-13 victory over Strasburg. On the same day, in a game that was moved to Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction due to weather, Delta was victorious, capturing its second state title in school history and first since 1960 with a 54-14 win over Rifle. 

Erie kicked off the second weekend of championships with a 20-6 victory over Palmer Ridge in the 4A Championship at Colorado State University's Canvas Stadium, marking the school's first 4A title and second-ever football championship (1997, 1A).

In the final game at the ThunderBowl, Holy Family came out on top, defeating Lutheran, 33-8.

In the final championship game of the two weekends, Columbine remained undefeated by knocking off Cherry Creek, 28-14.
