The Colorado High School Activities Association has named Bethany Brookens to be the next associate commissioner of the Association.
Brookens’ appointment to the associate commissioner position was made by incoming CHSAA commissioner Mike Krueger and will begin effective immediately. A motivated educator with significant experience managing large scale events, promoting statewide activities and cultivating relationships, Brookens has been a CHSAA assistant commissioner since 2008. She will help lead the Association into the 2022-23 school year and beyond.

“I am so honored to be chosen for this role and I’m extremely excited for this coming year and new team,” Brookens said. “We have an incredible staff and it’s a privilege to serve our membership in this capacity.”
Brookens has overseen numerous sports and activities, and has served on many statewide and national committees, including the Colorado Tennis Association Board of Directors, the Sportswomen of Colorado Board of Directors, the NFHS Music Advisory Committee, the NFHS Volleyball Advisory Committee, and others. She also serves as the Title IX and Equity liaison for the CHSAA membership and has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Colorado.
"Bethany is an exceptional leader, and her influence will continue to impact our staff and our schools in so many positive ways as she assumes this new role" Krueger said. "It will be an honor to serve our membership alongside her."
On top of boys and girls tennis, boys and girls volleyball, and skiing, Brookens took over as the administrator for boys and girls basketball this past year. She supervised and led the development and deployment of rSchool, the CHSAA digital platform, which included educational training and outreach. Brookens works closely with CDE, CADA, CHSCA, CASB, CASE, and the NFHS, as well as the League Organization and Classifying Committee (CLOC) to set enrollment ranges, place schools into classifications and handle appeals appropriately.
Brookens fills the position of associate commissioner, which was left open when previous associate commissioner Tom Robinson passed away on April 4. She is among several others assuming new positions at CHSAA for the upcoming school year, including
Krueger,
Michael Book (assistant commissioner) and
John Sullivan (assistant commissioner).
