AURORA -- The Colorado High School Activities Association has released its preseason coaches' polls for girls track and field.
The champions from a year ago were picked to repeat in four of the five classifications, with Cherry Creek checking in first in 5A after finishing second last season to Fossil Ridge - which is tied for fifth with Vista PEAK Prep in this year's preseason poll. In 2A, Heritage Christian topped the preseason polls with last year's champions, Wiggins, checking in second.
The top two teams in 1A were co-champions a year ago, with Idalia and McClave sharing the top spot in the preseason poll again, while the 3A and 4A champions were picked to repeat this year: The Classical Academy in 3A and Niwot in 4A.
The preseason coaches' poll is the only poll that will be conducted by CHSAA for girls track and field.
The girls track and field season started with practice this past Monday. Scrimmages can begin tomorrow with meets starting on Thursday, March 5. The state championships will take place Thursday through Saturday, May 14-16.
