Softball: State Champions to be Determined Saturday

AURORA - The semifinal matchups for the 2025 Softball State Championships have been set after two rounds of play on Friday, and both the semfinals and championship games for 5A, 4A and 3A will be played Saturday.

All semifinal games will begin at 10 a.m. with the championship games to follow.
 
The 3A championship game will begin at 1 p.m., with the 4A and 5A championship games starting at 1:15 p.m. All games will be played at Aurora Sports Park.

All tickets to the state championships are digital and can be purchased through GoFan. Cell service and wifi is limited at Aurora Sports Park, so it is recommended that you purchase tickets in advance. 

The games are available for viewing on the NFHS Network.

Please note: Due to CHSAA's Postseason Rights Agreements with the NFHS Network, streaming outside of that platform is prohibited. The NFHS Network will be on site on Saturday to provide manual streams of all semifinals and finals. Therefore, NO LIVE STREAM WILL BE PERMITTED ON ANY PLATFORM on Saturday.

Reminder: Aurora Sports Park has specific rules that include: no glass bottles and no pets are allowed.

5A Semifinals (5A Bracket)

In 5A, there will be a new champion for the sixth consecutive year as No. 10 Fort Collins beat No. 7 defending state champion Riverdale Ridge 2-1 in the opening round.

No. 2 Cherokee Trail, last year's runner-up, is back in the semfinals after defeating No. 15 Chaparral 4-1 in the first round before stopping Fort Collins, 10-0 in the quarterfinals. The Cougars will face No. 6 Legend, which advanced with wins of 10-0 against No. 11 Pueblo West and 8-1 over No. 3 Columbine.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 1 Broomfield reached the semfinals with wins of 10-0 over No. 16 Arapahoe in the first round and 13-1 over No. 8 Fossil Ridge in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, No. 5 Eaglecrest beat No. 12 Valor Christian 10-0 to start the day before getting past No. 4 Erie 4-1 in the quarters.
 
Cherokee Trail will be looking to make its fifth appearance in the championship game while and add to its only state title, won in 2016.
 
Broomfield, the runners-up in 2004 and 2016, will be looking to make a third championship game appearance and secure its first-ever state title in softball.
  
Legend, the last team to win back-to-back 5A softball titles (2017, 2018) also won it all in 2021.  is the most recent champion among the semifinalists, with its most recent state title coming in 2021. The Titans also won in 2017 and 2018 after making its debut in the championship game in 2013.

Eaglecrest is looking to add to its lone state softball title, won it 2005.

In 4A, No. 4 Lutheran is seeking a fifth straight championship but will have to get past No. 1 Windsor, the team it beat 1-0 in last year's championship game, in the semifinals. Lutheran opened Friday with a 9-2 win over No. 13 Berthoud before edging No. 12 Air Academy 4-3 in the quarterfinals. Windsor beat No. 16 Roosevelt 4-0 before topping No. 8 Severance in the quarterfinals.
 
In the other semifinal, No. 2 Windsor will face No. 3 Pueblo County. Windsor knocked off Northridge, 13-0, and then No. 10 Palmer Ridge, 7-1, to advance, while Pueblo County beat No. 14 Cheyenne Mountain, 8-5, before defeating No. 11 Golden, 10-0.
 
Lutheran has played in the past five state championship games. Windsor, the 2006 champion, is looking to make its fourth championship game appearance in program history.
 
On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Palmer Ridge beat No. 15 Ponderosa 9-7 in the opening round, then earned a 12-2 win over No. 10 Pueblo Central in the quarterfinals. No. 3 Holy Family beat No. 14 D'Evelyn 3-0 before topping No. 6 Frederick 10-4 in the quarters.
 
Holy Family is looking for a ninth championship game appearance. The owners of four state titles, the Tigers are looking for their first state title since winning back-to-back championships in 2020 and 2021.

Palmer Ridge has never reached the championshp game.

In 3A, three-time defending champion and second-seeded Eaton will be looking to extend its legacy after blanking No. 15 seed Sterling 15-0 in the first round and then edging No. 10 Lyons 4-3 in the quarterfinals. The Reds will face No. 6 Brush in the semifinals after the Beetdiggers topped No. 11 Delta 14-2 in the first round before upending No. 3 Southeast Colorado 2-1 in the quarters.

Not to be be overlooked is No. 1 University which sailed into the semifinal with Friday wins over No. 16 Weld Central (12-0) and No. 9 The Classical Academy (11-1). University will play No. 5 Wellington in the semifinals after the Eagles beat No. 12 Cedaredge 4-1 and No. 13 Alamosa 14-4.

University's only softball title came in 2019, while both Brush and Wellington are seeking their first softball state championship.
