One of the most successful student participants in Colorado, Tom Southall has been described as one of the state's best athletes, along the lines of Dutch Clark and Byron White. Southall electrified the high school world in football, basketball and track, earning four-time letters in each, and also participated in band and student council for four years. Born without a complete arm, Southall set numerous school marks and guided his team to the 1979 football title. He was a three- time state track champion. His achievements are too numerous to list. He played at Colorado College where he led the nation in punt returns. The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame honored him as its 1981 High School Athlete of the Year. A teacher and coach at Eaglecrest High School, Southall was EHS's 1996 Teacher of the Year
