Phyllis Jojola was Colorado's first dominating gymnast, becoming the state's first all-around champion in 1967. She won the 1968 all-around championship, taking the beam, floor exercise and vault and finishing second in the uneven bars. She competed at Southern Illinois University where she earned AII-American honors and was a member of a national championship team. She coached at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and had 12 Division II AII-Americans. She was a six-time College Coach of the Year. Her teams captured three national championships. She continues to coach and teach gymnastics in Wisconsin
