Jon Archuleta
Alamosa
Colorado’s seventh four-time state wrestling champion, Jonathon Archuleta was one of the state’s legendary wrestlers.
Alamosa head coach Gary Ramstetter noted in a letter that Archuleta was one of his favorite wrestlers to coach, not simply because of his talent, but because of his character and hard work.
Archuleta posted a career record of 135-4 during his high school career which means he won 97% of his matches.
He was ranked number one in the nation at his weight during his senior year and competed in the prestigious Dapper Dan Classic in Pennsylvania. Very few Colorado wrestlers have ever been invited to this meet.
Archuleta was a four-time district and regional champion for the Mean Moose and was named Colorado’s 4A Outstanding Wrestler as a senior.
The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame named him the Male Prep Athlete of the Year in 1995. Amazingly, he won 125 straight matches from the middle of his freshman year until the end of his prep career.
Alamosa won two state championships while Archuleta was there – 1992 and 1995 – his freshman and senior seasons.
Following high school, Archuleta went on to wrestle at California State University at Bakersfield.
He was a four-time national qualifier while at Cal State-Bakersfield. A fierce competitor, Archuleta placed in many of the top collegiate tournaments in the country.
He capped off his outstanding collegiate career by winning his weight class at the PAC-12 wrestling tournament and earning yet another trip to the national championships where he finished in the top 12.
A former high school coach, Archuleta is married to Amanda and has two daughters.
