Bobby Anderson is one of the state’s most well-known athletic figures, playing for Boulder High School, following his brother Dick to the University of Colorado and then moving on to a career with the Denver Broncos.

A three-sport athlete at BHS, Anderson graduated in 1966, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. As a sophomore, Anderson was selected to succeed another CHSAA Hall of Famer, Hale Irwin, at quarterback.

In 1963, Anderson powered the Panthers to the state championship, cementing his name in prep football lore. Ironically, though he is noted for his football exploits more than the other sports, as a switch-hitting catcher he was drafted by the Houston Astros.

He starred in the senior high school baseball game held at former Bears Stadium and homered from the left side, then doubling off the wall from the right in winning MVP honors in the game.

He was also The Denver Post Gold Helmet Award recipient as a senior.

For all his athletic versatility, Anderson elected to focus on football as he entered the University of Colorado where he set 18 records before graduation in 1970. He was an honorable mention All-American as a quarterback as a sophomore, but then earned consensus All-America honors in 1969 as a tailback.

A first round draft pick of the Denver Broncos, Anderson played for the home town team for five years before finishing out his career with New England and Washington.

He worked in the broadcast media on CU and Bronco events.

Anderson is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame (2006), the University of Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (2006), Big Eight Conference Hall of Fame (1980) and Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (1982).

For movie buffs, Anderson also played a bit part in the movie “One on One” that was filmed at Colorado State.
