Kathy Francis-Nunnery is one of the pioneer coaches and administrators in girls sports in Colorado. A fine athlete in her own right, Francis coached spirit, volleyball and track at Cherry Creek, Smoky Hill and in Colorado Springs. Nunnery began her administrative career in Colorado Springs before becoming athletic director at Gateway, a position she held for 15 years. She served on the CHSAA Board of Control, track and field, volleyball (including a term as chair), gymnastics and appeals committees. She also served as a state meet director for boys and girls swimming and boys and girls gymnastics, in addition to hosting numerous district and state qualifying events. She has been an advocate for girls and women’s participation in sports.
