Rick "Goose" Gossage
Wasson
A member of the Baseball Hall of Fame (2008), Rick “Goose” Gossage earned great notoriety for his pitching abilities in a 22-year major league baseball career, but he was also an exceptional prep athlete at Wasson where he played baseball and basketball. Goose helped redefine the role of the relief pitcher, ultimately recording 310 saves and over 1,500 strikeouts. His 310 saves rank him eighth all-time. He posted a 124-107 won-loss record in his career, with 115 of those wins coming in relief. He pitched 1,809.1 innings, posting a career 3.01 earned run average.
