Hockey's state tournament bracket is out; Valor Christian claims top seed

The state tournament bracket for hockey was released, and it is Valor Christian which as grabbed the top overall seed.

The Eagles, who finished the regular season 16-2-1, are among eight top seeds that will receive first-round byes. The others include: No. 2 Chaparral, No. 3 Fort Collins, No. 4 Denver East, No. 5 Regis Jesuit, No. 6 Heritage, No. 7 Doherty and No. 8 Pine Creek.

The 24-team bracket begins play this Tuesday and Wednesday with first-round games. The second round will be Friday, and quarterfinals are set for Saturday. Each of those rounds will be played at home sites.

When the tournament is down to its Frozen 4, the games will move to the Pepsi Center. Semifinals are March 5, and the championship game is March 10.
