A massive snowstorm in the southwestern part of the state has led to changes in the schedule for the state skiing championships.

Durango has been hammered by snow over the past week, with Purgatory Resort, the site of the alpine events, receiving 40 inches over the past week. Another 1-2 feet of snow is forecast through Friday evening.

The original schedule at state skiing had one alpine and one nordic event slated for Thursday, and one each on Friday. That schedule has been modified, and there will now be one race of each alpine event on Thursday. The nordic schedule remains unchanged.

On Thursday, the giant slalom will begin at 9 a.m. with the first run of the girls. The boys will follow immediately after.

At 12:15, the course will change the slalom, and the girls will take their first run. The boys will follow after.

Should conditions allow, a second run of each event will be held on Friday. A decision on that will be made by 4 p.m. Thursday.

The schedule has been updated to reflect these changes.
