Skyview girls basketball wins first league title in 17 seasons


Skyview girls basketball won its first league title on Friday night since 2002, ending a 17-year drought.

The Wolverines captured the Colorado 8 league tournament championship with a 57-28 win over Weld Central. They also beat Arvada (48-15) and Conifer (35-30) in the tournament.

The finished the regular season 20-3. The Wolverines also finished atop the Colorado 8's league standings at 7-0. They have won 13 consecutive games.

Skyview's led in scoring this season by Sophia Trujillo (11.3 points per game), Thalia Guardiola (11.1 points) and Casandra Olivas (9.3 points).

The Wolverines, who play in Class 4A, will find out their seed for the state tournament on Sunday.
