Playoff highlights five boys golf regionals completed on Monday

A total of five boys golf regionals wrapped up on Monday, crowning champions, and sending qualifiers to the state tournaments in October.

The day was highlighted by a team playoff in the Class 5A Central Region, which Fairview won over Valor Christian on the first hole.

"The playoff was so exciting with eight guys going down the fairway," Fairview's Brett Reamon told after the round.

Both Fairview and Valor Christian finished the event, held at Legacy Ridge Golf Course in Westminster, at 7-over.

Individually, Valor Christian's Jake Welch won the region by shooting 4-under.

In the 5A Western Region, Horizon's Ryan Bomareto won individual honors at 1-under. Ralston Valley's Jack Larson and Gage Messingham, Legacy's Grant Hoos and Highland Ranch's Tarek Salem tied for second at 1-over.

Ralston Valley won the team crown in that region, shooting 9-over.

In 3A Region 4, Aspen (1-over) won the team title, and the Skiers also had four of the top five individual finishers, with Jack Hughes (1-under) winning the individual championship.

Dominic Lanese IV (even) was second, and Dawson Holmes (2-over) tied for third place with Carlo Pine of Telluride. Aspen's Jack Pevny (3-over) was fifth.

"We had a real solid day today," Hughes told the Aspen Times. "All four of our guys played really well. It's really fun when that happens. It makes it a lot more enjoyable."

Eaton won 3A Region 3 with a score of 8-over. The Reds also had the individual champion as Peter Grossenbacher shot 2-under.

At 4A Region 2, Ponderosa won the region as a team, shooting 24-over. The Mustangs' Mac Konrad took individual honors by shooting a 4-over.

Boys golf's regionals continue with five events on Tuesday, and conclude with two more on Wednesday.
