Sierra Grande announces new head coaches in volleyball, football and baseball

There are three new head coaches at Sierra Grande heading into the 2018-19 school year, as well as a new athletic director.

Matt Lucero, formerly the football coach, is now the school's athletic director. He will remain as the boys basketball coach, now in his 16th season.

Luis Corona will take over the football team, which went 6-3 in 6-man last season. The Panthers lost in the first round of the playoffs. Tomas Maestas will be an assistant with the program. Corona had been an assistant last season.

Christy Lucero will be the new volleyball coach, taking over for Christa Thies. The Class 1A program was 7-12 a season ago. She is a history teacher at a middle school in the district.

Katie Smith Lancaster, a former standout player at the school, will serve as Lucero's assistant on the volleyball team.

In baseball, Brad Milner is the new coach, replacing Brandon Mizokami. The Panthers were 6-9-1 a season ago in 1A.

Milner teaches science at the high school. Corona will also be an assistant with the baseball team.
