Durango’s four-run first inning was put together thanks to back-to-back doubles by Gage Mestas and Genualdi, as well as singles by Gavin Mestas and Gus Kidd.
Montrose slowly chipped away, starting with Dustin Boone’s solo home run in the top of the second, and a double by Jared Miller and a single by Boone in the top of the fourth. That cut the lead to 5-2.
Durango responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 7-2, and the teams traded runs in the fifth to make it 8-3.
In the sixth, Montrose’s rally caught life. A two-run double by Dylan James put Montrose ahead 9-8, capping a six-run inning.
