Girls lacrosse rankings: Defending champs Colorado Academy preseason No. 1

Colorado Academy ended last year on top and will start this season on top.

The Mustangs went undefeated last year en route to the girls lacrosse state championship and earned five of seven first-place votes in the preseason poll.

Colorado Academy also returns its top three goal scorers: Lauren Russell, Sydney Prokupek and Claire Wright (126 goals).

Cherry Creek comes in at No. 2 behind Colorado Academy.

The Bruins lost to Colorado Academy 9-8 in the championship game. Cherry Creek grabbed two first-place votes.

Kent Denver, a semifinal team last year, slides in at No. 3. Rounding out the top five are No. 4 Denver East and No. 5 ThunderRidge.

After losing in the semifinals, Mullen is into the poll at No. 7.

Ahead of Mullen in the No. 6 spot is a Columbine team that returns its leading goal scorer Angela Naughton

Arapahoe, Palmer Ridge, and Ralston Valley cap the top 10.

The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association.

During the regular season, new polls are released each Monday.
