Tanner Norman, a senior at The Classical Academy, was named the Colorado boys cross country runner of the year by Gatorade on Monday.
Norman won the Class 3A state title at last fall’s championship meet, finishing in 15:44.7, as he helped the Titans to a runner-up finish as a team. Norman then went on to place seventh at the Nike Cross Nationals Southwest Regional meet, and eighth nationally at the NXN Final.
He now becomes a finalist for the national award, which will be announced in a few weeks.
Norman has a 3.81 GPA, and has signed with Iowa State.
“Tanner has been an exceptional leader and competitor throughout high school, but particularly these last two years,” The Classical Academy coach Alan Versaw said in a statement. “He’s been beyond exemplary in setting an example of training hard, doing exactly what he’s asked to do, putting in strength conditioning work on his own, and being ready — without fail — on race day.”
Norman is the first boys cross country runner from The Classical Academy to win the Gatorade award.
