AURORA — Chants of "New No. 1" rang throughout the over-packed gym with just over two minutes to go as 5A's top two teams battled it out.
No. 2 ThunderRidge boys basketball took advantage of a second quarter drought by No. 1 Regis Jesuit to cruise to an impressive 59-36 win on Tuesday.
The Grizzlies (19-1, 7-0) handed Regis (19-1, 6-1) its first loss this season en route to their 10th straight win.
ThunderRidge senior Zach Pirog was unstoppable all night, relentlessly scoring and blocking shots in the lane. He finished with a game-high 16 points, and Noah Szilagyi added 14 points. Taylor Kallsen's nine points led the way for Regis, which shot a dismal 35 percent from the floor.
ThunderRidge looks to keep rolling Friday versus Ponderosa, while Regis will try to bounce back against No. 5 Chaparral on Friday.
