Air Academy has hired Doug Goldberg as its new baseball coach, the school announced on Monday.

Goldberg had been a volunteer assistant with the program since 2010-11, including the school's runner-up finish in Class 4A in 2012. He was picked from three finalists, according to Air Academy athletic director Diane Shuck.

"Goldberg emerged as the top candidate for the program," Shuck wrote in an email on Monday.

Goldberg has previously coached at the youth level, including in Academy Little League, and various club organizations. He played collegiate baseball at the University of Denver, and holds school records for home runs, RBIs and walks.

"Air Academy High School is excited to have Coach Goldberg bring his extensive knowledge, experience and leadership to our baseball program," Shuck wrote. "We are so excited to have such a qualified and exception coach leading our program."
