Student Leadership

Applications for Student Leadership Fellowship Due March 29

AURORA - The Colorado High School Activities Association is now accepting applications for its Student Leadership Fellowship, a one-year leadership development program designed for incoming 9th–12th grade students who are interested in growing as leaders within Colorado’s activities and athletics community.

The CHSAA Leadership Fellowship is designed as a leadership growth experience, not a representative position. Students selected for the program will participate in learning opportunities that strengthen leadership skills, deepen their understanding of education-based activities, and connect them with student leaders from across the state. Through collaboration, discussion, and hands-on projects, fellows will explore how leadership can positively influence school culture, student voice, and participation in school activities.

Throughout the year, fellows will be asked to listen, observe, reflect, and contribute ideas as they engage in conversations about leadership within athletics and activities. Participants will work together to explore issues affecting students, support school-based programs, and identify ways to strengthen the student leadership experience across Colorado schools.

Students interested in the fellowship should demonstrate a commitment to leadership development, educational issues, and service within their school community. Fellows must also commit to participating in several key program experiences, including the CHSAA Leadership Summer Workshop (June 6–8) and one of the CHSAA Fall Leadership Conferences (dates to be announced). Because the fellowship includes engagement throughout the year, students should have the support of their parents or guardians, their coach or adviser, and their school administration.

The structure of the fellowship emphasizes shared leadership and personal growth. There are no elected positions within the group. Instead, students are encouraged to discover and develop their own leadership strengths while learning from the perspectives of others. Whether a student’s interests lie in athletics, performing arts, speech and debate, esports, student council, or other school activities, all leadership experiences are valued and contribute to the learning environment of the group.

The CHSAA Leadership Fellowship is intended for students who are curious, motivated to grow, and interested in making a positive impact on their school community. While many highly involved students may benefit from the experience, schools are also encouraged to nominate students who may not yet be heavily involved but demonstrate leadership potential and a desire to become more engaged.
