MONTROSE — Montrose boys basketball won a close game against Grand Junction Central on Friday, ultimately winning 36-35.
The game was tied at 24 entering the fourth quarter. Grand Junction Central started to pull away as the final frame opened — or so it seemed.
The Warriors led 33-26 with just less then two minutes left.
But then Montrose senior Kade Terrell hit a 3-pointer and then three free throws to cut their lead to one.
Connor Imus then stole possession and scored to give the lead back to Montrose.
With 34 seconds left, Terrell made two more free throws to push the lead to 36-33.
Grand Junction Central would cut it to 36-35, but a last-second shot to win the game fell short.
Montrose is now 14-6 this season in Class 4A. The squad plays Grand Junction in a week.
Grand Junction Central is now 8-11, and will face Fruita Monument next Tuesday.
