No. 6 Fort Collins volleyball had its nine-game winning streak snapped by No. 9 Fossil Ridge on Thursday.
The Lambkins had not lost since the beginning of September.
After a loss in the first set, Fossil Ridge won three straight to beat Fort Collins in four sets.
"It was really big being that they're a cross-town rival, and we sometimes fight for kids between the two schools," Fossil Ridge coach Paul Shimek said. "We lost the game to Rocky Mountain, which was disappointing because we didn't show up very well that day. We really wanted to come back and show that we belonged."
The Sabercats won 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-17.
Riley Zuhn and Catie Semadeni led Fossil Ridge with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Charlie Durbin also had 29 digs.
The win puts Fossil Ridge at 7-1 in a crowded Class 5A Front Range League, good for a temporary hold on first place.
"We're hoping that it's a catalyst. That this is a starting spot. We're starting to get people back regular," Shimek said. "Riley is finally starting to get back healthy again, and Mataya's (Megson) arm is coming back a little bit. We're starting to put everything together now, so hopefully this is a starting point and we keep getting better from here."
Fossil Ridge has now won four in a row after a midseason skid in which they lost three of four games.
