Fruita Monument athletic director Denny Squibb announced on Monday that Ryan Hayden has been hired as the new boys basketball coach.

Hayden comes over from Grand Junction Central where he has been the boys basketball coach for the last six seasons.

Prior to his time as the head coach of the Warriors, he spent time as an assistant at Palisade where he attended high school.

"Fruita Monument is excited that Coach Hayden has accepted this coaching position," Squibb said in a statement. "We feel he is one of the top coaches on the Western Slope."

It was announced in late March that coach Billy Dreher would not return to the Wildcats, leaving the coaching job open for any and all takers.

The Wildcats finished 10-14 during the 2016-17 season. They advanced to the Class 5A state tournament where they lost to Ralston Valley in the first round.
